RSL580 & RSL590M Drone Targets for High-Precision Reference Control
The Rothbucher RSL580 and magnetic RSL590M drone targets are designed for workflows that need a stronger link between surveyed reference control and aerial mapping. They integrate with Rothbucher's One Point Fits All (OPFA) system so the same physical reference point can be surveyed with a compatible mini prism and then reused for a drone target.
Choose the Reference-Control System
RSL580 — RSFP-X80 System
Designed to clip into the RSFP-X80 reference-point system after the point has been surveyed with compatible mini prisms such as the RSMP380.
RSL590M — Magnetic RSFP-X90 System
Magnetic drone target designed to work with the RSFP-X90 fixed-point system and compatible magnetic prism workflows such as the RSMP390M.
Why OPFA Matters
Instead of establishing one reference for the prism, another for a scanner target, and another for the drone, OPFA is designed to let multiple compatible accessories return to the same physical reference point. With the correct offset, the workflow is intended to preserve the same survey point and XYZ coordinates across compatible tools.
Survey the Point First
Establish the reference with compatible survey hardware or a mini prism.
Swap to the Drone Target
Place the RSL580 or RSL590M on the same physical reference point for aerial capture.
Return Later
Leave only the small fixed point in place and reuse it during follow-up or repeat mapping.
Mix Mapping Technologies
Coordinate drone, terrestrial scanner, prism and other reference-control workflows around a common point.
Performance & Compatibility Notes
| RSL580 Number Sets | RSL580-10 numbers 1–10; RSL580-20 numbers 11–20 |
|---|---|
| RSL590M Number Sets | RSL590M-10 numbers 1–10; RSL590M-20 numbers 11–20 |
| RSL580 Reference System | RSFP-X80 family; compatible workflow described with mini prism RSMP380 |
| RSL590M Reference System | Magnetic RSFP-X90 family; compatible workflow described with mini prism RSMP390M |
| Tripod / Tribrach Option | RSL580 can be positioned over the prism survey point with RSA-X80g-1 and mounted to 5/8-inch UNC equipment using RSA-5/8-1 |
| Repeat Surveys | Designed so a small permanent reference point can remain on the object for later measurements |
| Published Accuracy Claim | Rothbucher reports that, with adequate camera or surveying-instrument quality and the correct workflow, accuracies of ±1 mm can be achieved; actual results depend on equipment, setup and field conditions |
Ideal Public Safety Applications
Forensic Scene Control
Use one surveyed reference system across drone capture and complementary terrestrial measurements.
Repeat Crash-Site Mapping
Return to the same fixed control after a roadway or infrastructure scene changes over time.
Critical Infrastructure
Support repeatable reference control on buildings, bridges and other fixed assets.
Hybrid 3D Mapping
Help tie drone photogrammetry or LiDAR into scanner, prism and survey workflows built around common control.
