FAQs
Are these devices only for law enforcement?
Yes and no. Certain covert devices—especially those designed for surreptitious audio interception—are restricted for
sale/distribution under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2512) and are typically limited to authorized government and law enforcement use.
In addition, as part of our commitment to responsible use, MAXSUR may choose to restrict specific covert technologies to law enforcement
only—even when a device could be used in other contexts.
If you are not law enforcement/government, you’re still welcome to contact us. In some cases we may offer non-audio options
or recommend an appropriate commercial provider based on your needs.
What’s the difference between “body worn” and “covert”?
“Body worn” describes how it’s carried (on-person). “Covert” focuses on low visibility—smaller form factors, flexible placement,
and discreet operation to reduce behavioral changes in the scene.
How do I choose the right option?
Start with where it will be worn, how long it must run, and your evidence workflow (activation, labeling, storage, and review).
If you share your environment and mission duration, we can recommend a best-fit configuration.
Compliance note: Always follow applicable federal/state/local laws and your agency policies regarding recording, consent, and evidence retention.
