Encrypted Body Wire Monitoring Receiver
The Hornet Receiver is a compact law-enforcement body wire receiver configured for encrypted reception from compatible Hornet and Lancer transmitters. Built on the proven Icom IC-R6 wideband platform, it allows agencies to add properly keyed receivers so multiple surveillance, arrest or command teams can monitor the same operation simultaneously and discreetly.
Operational Advantages
Some operations require more than one listening position. Additional Hornet Receivers can give separate authorized teams access to the same encrypted Hornet or Lancer audio transmission without forcing everyone to remain at a single monitoring point.
Equip surveillance, cover, command or arrest teams with separate receivers configured to monitor the same compatible transmitter at the same time.
A decryption board installed inside the receiver chassis is configured specifically for compatible Hornet and Lancer digital body wire systems.
A user-selectable switch returns the receiver to standard IC-R6 operation for supported legacy analog narrowband FM, wideband FM and AM reception.
Use the included rubber whip for routine deployments or connect a compatible 50-ohm SMA antenna selected for vehicles, greater standoff or difficult RF environments.
The underlying IC-R6 platform provides wideband coverage, 100-channel-per-second VFO scanning and 1,300 memory channels organized across 22 banks.
The compact, drip-resistant IC-R6 chassis weighs approximately 7.1 ounces with its supplied antenna and batteries and is designed for dependable field reception.
Adding receivers to an existing system? Tell MAXSUR whether the receiver will support a Hornet or Lancer system and provide the requested system-identification details. Each additional unit must be configured with the correct decryption information before encrypted monitoring.
Dual-Mode Flexibility
The installed selector allows authorized users to choose the receiver path required for the mission:
Antenna Options
The included rubber whip antenna supports routine portable reception. When the mission calls for greater standoff, mobile monitoring or performance around structures and local RF congestion, the receiver’s 50-ohm SMA connection supports a broad range of compatible antenna configurations.
The right antenna depends on the programmed frequency, mounting location, cable loss, terrain, buildings, interference and desired mobility. MAXSUR can help identify the appropriate configuration for the agency’s operating environment.

Buyer Questions
Yes. Multiple receivers configured with the correct decryption information can monitor the same compatible transmitter simultaneously, allowing separate authorized surveillance, cover, command or arrest teams to hear the operation.
The receiver must be configured for the compatible Hornet or Lancer system it will monitor. Contact MAXSUR with the system details before ordering so compatibility and decryption configuration can be confirmed.
Yes. The selector can place the unit into standard IC-R6 receiver operation, providing AM, FM and WFM reception for supported legacy analog transmitters and other properly programmed, agency-authorized frequencies.
Yes. A portable rubber whip antenna is included. Compatible covert roof-mount, higher-gain and other SMA-connected antenna configurations are available separately for selected operating environments.
Not necessarily. Reception depends on frequency, antenna tuning and placement, cable loss, terrain, buildings, interference and transmitter location. MAXSUR can help select an antenna appropriate for the intended deployment.
