Harpoon ATDGGSM2 GSM Cellular Audio Transmitter
The MAXSUR Harpoon is a miniature quad-band GSM cellular audio transmitter for authorized body-worn, vehicle and fixed-site operations outside North America. Insert a compatible SIM, configure the authorized monitoring phone and use the cellular network to listen, program the transmitter, or receive automatic alerts from virtually any distance supported by the local 2G GSM network.
Mission Advantages
Harpoon replaces a conventional nearby RF receiver with a direct cellular call, giving authorized teams a compact audio platform for short-duration wearable use or extended vehicle and structure deployments.
When a compatible SIM and 2G GSM network are available, monitoring distance is governed by cellular service rather than the short RF path between a traditional body wire and receiver.
The slide-in SIM reader, integrated cellular antenna and remote programming functions help an authorized team configure the transmitter without a specialized nearby radio receiver.
Program Harpoon to auto-dial after sound or movement is detected, conserving power and alerting the monitoring team when activity begins.
Onboard digital signal processing provides noise reduction, echo cancellation and independently selectable high- and low-pass filters.
An optional dual-microphone configuration provides pseudo-stereo audio and lets the team remotely enable or disable each microphone independently.
Use replaceable batteries for portable operations or the included 7–28VDC adapter for long-term vehicle and building installations.
Regional Network Compatibility
Harpoon supports the four classic GSM bands: 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. That hardware compatibility makes it a strong option in parts of Europe, Africa and Asia where supported 2G GSM service and compatible SIM provisioning remain available.
Network availability is country-, carrier- and location-specific. MAXSUR will help evaluate the intended region, but the purchasing agency should confirm local 2G service and SIM voice/SMS support before deployment.
Operational Workflow
Harpoon can be used as a direct-dial cellular listening device or configured to initiate contact automatically when sound or movement indicates activity.
Install a compatible voice- and SMS-capable SIM, then program the approved monitoring number and mission settings.
Use direct calling, switchable VOX with 99 sensitivity levels, or the accelerometer with 9 movement-detection levels.
When the programmed condition occurs, Harpoon can auto-dial and transmit audio; movement events can also generate an SMS notification.
The authorized phone can monitor the audio and change supported settings. A normal three-way call may add another authorized listener when the carrier and phone plan support conferencing.
Authorized Applications
DSP Audio and Optional Dual Microphones
Harpoon combines a high-gain Knowles microphone with onboard DSP designed to reduce ambient noise, cancel echo and filter unwanted frequencies. Three microphone-sensitivity settings can be adjusted remotely to help match the audio pickup to the placement and surrounding environment.
Flexible Power Architecture
Harpoon's primary operating voltage is 3.6VDC. The included inline adapter accepts 7–28VDC, allowing the system to run from the supplied 9V or eight-AA battery holders or from an appropriate vehicle or building DC source.
Published current draw at 12VDC is 30 mA in sleep mode and 60 mA while active. Actual runtime depends on battery type and condition, cellular signal strength, network behavior, temperature, activation settings and the amount of active calling.

Buyer Questions
Harpoon is designed as a direct connection to one authorized monitoring phone, much like a conventional phone call. If another authorized listener needs to join, the primary phone can initiate a three-way call when its carrier and service plan support conferencing.
Harpoon is not recommended for North American operations because it relies on legacy 2G GSM service, which has largely been retired by U.S. and Canadian carriers. For North America, MAXSUR recommends the ShadowRelay covert streaming smartphone system. Harpoon is primarily intended for compatible networks in Europe, Africa and Asia.
Harpoon measures 1.69 x 1.81 x 0.41 inches (43 x 46 x 11 mm) and weighs less than one ounce (25 grams). Its slim 0.41-inch profile supports concealment under clothing, behind vehicle trim panels, within suitable junction boxes and in other authorized installations.
Harpoon uses an onboard digital signal processor to improve evidentiary audio through ambient-noise reduction, echo cancellation and redundant-noise cancellation. It also provides independently selectable high- and low-pass filters plus three remotely adjustable microphone-sensitivity settings.
Yes. As an option, the MAXSUR technical team can configure Harpoon with two microphones to produce pseudo-stereo audio. Each microphone can be enabled or disabled independently through remote control. For example, one microphone may cover a vehicle interior while the second is positioned for another authorized listening area.
Harpoon can be called directly or configured for automatic activation. Its switchable VOX function can auto-dial after detecting audio at any of 99 selectable sensitivity levels. Its built-in accelerometer provides 9 movement-detection levels and can trigger activation, auto-dialing and an SMS notification when movement is detected.
Harpoon draws a published 30 mA in sleep mode and 60 mA while active at 12VDC. It can operate for days on common alkaline batteries, depending on battery capacity, cellular conditions and the amount of active calling. For longer vehicle or building operations, the included adapter accepts compatible 7–28VDC power and can support ongoing operation while that external source remains available. The kit includes a 9V battery holder and a 12V holder for eight AA batteries.
Harpoon can be programmed to recognize only a designated phone for remote monitoring and programming, helping prevent unauthorized phones from controlling the device. This is an access-control function; the supplied documentation does not describe the cellular audio as end-to-end encrypted. Agencies should evaluate the local carrier network, operational risk and mission security requirements before use.
No SIM card or cellular plan is listed as included. The operating agency must provide a compatible voice- and SMS-capable SIM for a supported 2G GSM network in the intended country. Confirm the network and SIM configuration before deployment.
Yes. The current Harpoon specification sheet states a 2-year warranty. MAXSUR will confirm the final warranty terms in the official quotation.
Harpoon is intended for authorized law-enforcement, government and qualified public-safety customers. MAXSUR will confirm purchaser eligibility, intended country of operation, network compatibility, mission requirements and final system configuration before sale.
