Thunderbolt II STR-100 Fixed-Location Audio Transmitter
The MAXSUR Thunderbolt II is a miniature UHF analog audio transmitter designed for authorized long-duration monitoring wherever compatible 110/220VAC power is available. Its separated transmitter and power modules, external microphone and external antenna provide installation flexibility while eliminating routine transmitter battery changes.
Mission Advantages
Thunderbolt II replaces the battery-service cycle of a portable transmitter with compatible mains power and distributes its core components across two tiny modules for greater placement flexibility.
Compatible 110/220VAC power supports ongoing operation while the circuit remains energized and the equipment remains serviceable.
Each module measures only 32 × 13 × 8 mm, allowing the power and transmitter sections to be positioned separately within an authorized installation.
The external microphone can be positioned with room acoustics and the intended conversation area in mind instead of being constrained to the module location.
A 180 mm external antenna gives the installation team flexibility to orient the radiating element independently of the transmitter modules.
UHF narrowband FM supports compatible analog monitoring equipment and can degrade gradually at the edge of coverage rather than failing only as an all-or-nothing link.
MAXSUR can help pair Thunderbolt II with compatible receivers, recording equipment, antennas and legally authorized retransmission or cellular backhaul.
Distributed Miniature Architecture
In a fixed installation, the best location for power may not be the best location for the microphone or antenna. Thunderbolt II addresses that problem with two slender electronic modules plus separate audio and RF elements.
The external microphone can be placed for clearer room-level pickup, while the 180 mm antenna can be routed and oriented for a more favorable path to the monitoring receiver. The two-module format also makes the system easier to distribute within tight spaces than one larger enclosure.
Authorized Applications
Thunderbolt II can support appropriately authorized fixed-location missions such as:
Persistent UHF Audio
Thunderbolt II combines a dual-module installation format with an external microphone, external antenna and compatible mains power. The result is a purpose-built fixed-location transmitter for missions in which small physical size and long-duration availability matter more than body-worn mobility.
Receiver and Coverage Planning
The legacy Thunderbolt II copy cites up to one mile under favorable line-of-sight conditions and approximately 1,500 feet in a reported residential brick-construction test. Those figures should be treated as planning references rather than guaranteed coverage.
Actual performance depends on the configured UHF frequency, construction materials, metal and utilities, antenna orientation, transmitter and receiver elevation, local interference, receiver sensitivity and the receiving antenna. MAXSUR can help plan the direct RF path or a compatible recording, repeater or cellular-backhaul location.

System Configuration
Buyer Questions
Thunderbolt II is a fixed-location UHF transmitter powered from a compatible 110/220VAC circuit. It is designed for persistent room-level audio without periodic transmitter battery changes. A conventional body wire is mobile and worn or carried by an undercover officer, confidential source or other authorized operator.
Each Thunderbolt II module measures just 32 × 13 × 8 mm. Separating the electronics into two small sections gives qualified personnel more flexibility to distribute the system within tight installation spaces. The external microphone and antenna can then be positioned independently for audio pickup and RF performance.
In practical terms, it can continue operating while compatible mains power remains available and the transmitter remains serviceable. That makes Thunderbolt II valuable for long-duration deployments in which recovering a device for battery changes would be difficult. Outages, circuit changes, site conditions and normal equipment life can still affect availability.
Yes, and to be specific, that is 120 volts AC @ 60Hz (North America), and 220 volts @ 50Hz (Europe)
Ideally, a licensed electrician or appropriately qualified personnel specifically authorized under agency policy. Because Thunderbolt II interfaces with mains voltage, installation, servicing and removal must follow applicable electrical codes, safety procedures and legal authorization.
In all likelyhood, your communications team already has the necassary receiving and monitoring equipment. However, it you need a dedicated receiver, please consider the Hornet reciever which works on both dital and analog transmitters.
Up to one mile under favorable line-of-sight conditions and approximately 1,500 feet in a residential brick-construction test. Actual range can vary considerably with construction materials, metal and utilities, antenna orientation, transmitter and receiver elevation, local interference and receiver performance. The key is often to reach a discreet recording or repeater location, and MAXSUR can help plan that RF path.
No. Thunderbolt II uses analog NFM transmission and does not encrypt its audio. Analog does offer an operational tradeoff: when obstruction or distance weakens the signal, the team may still receive noisy but useful audio rather than experience the abrupt loss common at the edge of many digital links. Analog should never be treated as secure, however. MAXSUR can recommend an encrypted digital system when the mission requires it.
No onboard recording function is identified in the supplied specifications. Audio can be recorded at the monitoring point using a compatible and legally authorized recorder. Contact MAXSUR for a configured receiver and recording package or a remote backhaul solution.
Yes. MAXSUR can configure a compatible repeater, recording point or cellular backhaul to carry received audio to another authorized location. If your agency communications team already supports the applicable UHF frequency, it may also be able to assist. MAXSUR can work with those personnel on frequency, receiver, antenna and retransmission planning.
Thunderbolt II is intended for authorized law-enforcement, government and qualified public-safety customers. MAXSUR will confirm purchaser eligibility, mission requirements, operating frequency, power compatibility and final system configuration before sale.
