UAS flight batteries are all LiPo (lithium polymer) type batteries. Unlike other type of batteries, LiPo batteries are intolerant of being left on either a full or empty charge. LiPo batteries left on a full charge start sustaining damage at ten days. After a few occurrences of the batteries being left on full charge, batteries will start to swell. Continually leaving batteries fully charged will lead to drastically reduced flight time, potential fires and potential explosions.
To strike a balance in between the technical needs of LiPo batteries, and public safety readiness, our Nathan George has prepared a short training lesson on UAS battery management.
