Here's an event that I personally recommend for those athletic folks that also have a passion for our veterans of the past, and today. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a 26.2 mile race through the desert and mountains of White Sands Missile Range. Its held every year in mid-March. Of the thousands that compete, it's comprised of military and law enforcement from around the world. The race can be done either individually, or as a five person team.
Along with fellow veterans, I've completed the race four times...and we did remarkably well for a bunch of old guys. I'll be the first to tell you that the race is one of the toughest things you'll ever do...but, it's a rewarding experience to meet the few remaining survivors of the real Bataan Death March, spend time with other vets, and on the lighter side of things...create a focal point for staying in shape.
For glimpse of the race day, please watch the video below. The MAXSUR team will be competing in the 2017 race, and I hope to see you there. The race starts at 0700 hours March 19th, 2017...so you have plenty of time ruck up and be ready!
